Our Mission

Rooted in the East,
present in the world

Chan-Chan Foundation cultivates spaces for stillness, inquiry, and cultural transmission — honoring traditions that have guided human flourishing for millennia.

"The ancient paths were not made to be preserved in museums — they were made to be walked."

What We Offer

Practices for the
contemplative life

Each program is an invitation — into silence, into beauty, into the living current of Eastern wisdom.

Zen Meditation

Seated practice rooted in Chan tradition. Sessions for beginners and seasoned practitioners, led by visiting teachers. Weekly in Manhattan.

Tea Ceremony

Gongfu cha as a contemplative discipline. Monthly gatherings that slow time and open attention through the ritual of tea.

Cultural Preservation

Documentary film, oral history, and archival work. Bringing endangered living traditions — from Tibetan epics to Chan monasteries — into the contemporary record.

格薩爾王

Documentary Film

The Epic of King Gesar

The longest epic in human literary history — still sung by wandering bards across the Tibetan plateau. Chan-Chan Foundation is producing a documentary that follows these living traditions before they vanish, preserving a world that cinema has never fully entered.
